Packing up

Last week began the packing and packing and more packing week. I didn't think it would take us so long to pack but every time I turned around there was another cupboard I forgot about and more things to decide if we keep or toss. Every night I would think- OK we will finish tonight, but no such luck we were packing up to the bitter end.

Owen and Uncle Spencer packing up the truck

Fortunately we got in some of our favorite things in between all the packing. We went to one last Royals game, it was so fun and Owen loved every minute, but the Royals lost so bad that it turned slightly depressing.

Deanna Rose Farm

Joseph took Owen to Allen Field House and looked at all the Jayhawk history, they had games and pictures of basketball legends that Owen loved.

We went to Union Station in Kansas City and saw the trains and then headed over to the Crown center and ran by the fountains and had lunch a funny little restaurant that brings you your food on trains- Owen loved every minute of it.

We are seeing PINK!

We have been slow to post anything about our new little baby that will be here the first week of September, but last week we went and had an ultrasound and found out we are having a little girl! Joseph and I are very excited and Owen... is still getting used to the idea of having a baby sister. I have to admit that it is so fun going into a store and seeing all the pink clothes and being able to buy one (or two) things- I keep telling myself that we are moving in 3 weeks and should not be buying clothes, but sometimes I just can't help myself!
I have been feeling good, and besides a day here or there, not much sickness. We couldn't be more excited about having a new little baby in our family and anxious to meet her and hold her little hands and kiss her little toes!

Easter Eggs

We decorated Easter eggs the other night. I bought the cheap egg dye at the grocery store, but Owen couldn't have been happier. It is so fun to do these traditions with Owen, he is getting to the age that he remembers everything we do- I have to be careful because he is gets confused at what's a tradition and what is a one time special occasion. For example, dying Easter eggs: tradition, buying a doughnut at the grocery store: one (or two) time special occasion!

Throughout the week the eggs have diminished; we had to crack one almost immediately to see what it looked like inside, and then Owen let one gently roll off the counter and crash on the kitchen floor- we have just two left, but it has been fun to have the brightly colored eggs in our kitchen this week.

Quick trip home

Last week Owen and I flew home for a trip to see everyone while my parents were in town. It was a quick trip but we were able to see family, our good friends, and some of our favorite restaurants. I was lame and didn't take any pictures, but I daydreamed about how it just two months we will be moving back home and will love being around mountains and family again; we have loved Lawrence and we will really miss all of our friends- but we are ready to be done with school and on to the next phase of life!

Cousins

We spent Spring break in Ohio with Owen's cousins this past week. It was so fun for Owen to have time with Ellie and Matt, however this picture displays Matt's feelings for Owen perfectly. Owen has recently learned how to tease and has enjoyed it more than we would like. By Thursday Matt had enough of the teasing and was done with being anywhere near Owen! Hopefully Matt will only remember the kind times with Owen or maybe (as in the picture) he will just need some space from Owen for awhile.

We loved being with the cute little kids and hopefully the next time we see them will be in Utah! We can't believe in just a couple of months we will be moving out of our little apartment and onto the next step of life!

Happy Valentine's Day

We had a fun Valentines this year. When I was little my mom would always put a bag of treats on our dresser that would be waiting for us when we got home from school on Valentine's Day. The treats always included the things we begged for at the grocery store and never got (ie soda, creamed filled pastries, full size candy bars, etc.) This year I had grand ideas for Owen and a Valentine's gift but as the day got closer and I still didn't have much, I began to see the genius behind the favorite treats; I could just pick it up at the grocery store and Owen could not have been more thrilled with his bag of goodies. Maybe next year I will fulfill my bigger plans for a memorable Valentine's gift... but probably not.

We had a little party with some of Owen's friends. Last year all the Law school families had boys, but with graduation and a new set of friends, Owen seems to be out numbered- but I don't think he minds!

The Blizzard of Oz

That's what they've been calling it on the local news here. Parts of nine states in the midwest have been under a blizzard warning today, including Kansas. School was canceled today and they just announced that classes will be canceled tomorrow as well.

Having grown up in Utah, I've certainly experienced deeper snow (without any school cancelations), but it's different here in the midwest. On Monday, freezing rain left a 1/4 inch glaze of ice on everything before the rain turned to snow and dropped 8 to 10 inches. Add to that a steady 30mph wind and the wind chill dips well below zero. And since the city only has about four snowplows, it doesn't take much for the roads to be come dangerously slick.

The only terrible thing about having two snow days is that Jenni and Owen are out of town. So I'm at home by myself listening to music, playing guitar, watching Hulu, working on the bar exam application, and (only because shear boredom), reading ahead for class.

Tomorrow will be more of the same.
