2011 - Year in Review

This year has seen some important milestones for our little family. Here's a brief summary:

In January, during Joseph's last Christmas break of law school, we decided to enjoy it and do a little globe-trotting. We spent some time in Barcelona with the Hinckley's. And in Greenwich/NYC with Lizzie and JT. Owen was a fantastic traveler and even picked up a little Spanish ("more leche, por favor").

In February, Owen hosted a Valentine's party with his friends.

In March, we went to Cincinnati to spend spring break with the Lesans.

In April, we decorated Easter eggs while Joseph studied for his last round of finals.

In May, Joseph turned 28 and graduated from law school, all on the same day. Holly and Spencer came to Lawrence to celebrate. We enjoyed our last days in Kansas by going to a Royals game and taking in our favorite KC spots. After that, we packed up our little apartment and moved to SLC, all while anticipating the arrival of our baby girl.

In June, Joseph started his new job and studied for bar exam; Owen took swimming lessons and helped mow the lawn.

In July, we went to the Scipio Rodeo. Joseph took the bar exam and then we celebrated by taking a vacation to Park City.

In August, Uncle Spencer took Owen and his cousins canoeing on Silver Lake.

In September, Catherine Camille Hinckley arrived!

In October, Owen played t-ball, went to preschool, and Owen and Catherine went trick-or-treating.

In November, Catherine was blessed and we hosted Thanksgiving dinner at our house.

In December, we were privileged to be in the Nativity in the Glen and spend time with our family during the holidays.

Here's to a happy 2012!

Merry Christmas!

Christmas Eve all the Hinckley's that live in Utah came over for fishpond and opening presents with Grammie Doll and Grand-daddy Owen. It was so fun to be together, even if it was a little crazy during the present opening!

We then headed over to my parents to open Christmas PJ's with the Koelliker kids, Owen fits right in with all the blonde's in their family, however Catherine's red-hair stands out a little more!

After having our own Christmas morning, we then headed back over to my parents for breakfast and gift exchange. The grand children were all anxiously waiting for Grandpa to start handing out the presents.

After Church we headed home for a little relaxation. Santa brought Catherine got a baby doll, of course. And Santa brought Owen a train that he hasn't stopped playing with.

We had such a fun weekend and loved being with family and friends all month long.

Catherine's Blessing

We blessed Catherine this past Sunday. It was so nice to be here with family and to enjoy the day together. My mom knitted her beautiful dress and the blanket we wrapped her in, that is just one of the many reasons we are so glad my parents are home!

We love Catherine so much, she is always so pleasant and happy. She sleeps well, loves to smile, and loves all of her aunts, uncles and cousins!

Happy Halloween

We had a fun Halloween this year. The day started out with Joseph getting sworn in as a member of the Utah State Bar.

Then we took the kids downtown to trick- or- treat at Grammie Doll's and have some chili and cornbread. We went to Grandma and Grandpa Koelliker's after that and then went to a few neighborhood houses. It was our first Halloween in Salt Lake and it was so fun to take Owen trick-or-treating to grandparent's houses and to hear him say "trick or treat" over and over again. And I loved handing out candy to all the trick-or-treaters; every year we have been married I have bought Halloween candy even though we have always lived in apartments where no kids would come trick-or-treating- and I would always wait and think maybe somebody would come knowing that no one would- but this year the doorbell didn't stop ringing and it was so fun to see all the kids and to hand out the candy!

Our Little Red-Head

Catherine's hair has only gotten thicker and more red. She's even started to smile! We love having her in our family.

With the fantastic fall weather in Salt Lake, Catherine and Owen helped us plant bulbs in the front yard.

T-ball

Owen started t-ball a couple of weeks ago. He loves it, every week he gets so excited and wants to wear his uniform all day. At least once or twice during the game he runs off the field to say "hi" to me and Joseph, but he looks pretty cute in his Boston Red Sox uniform. It is fun for him to have something new and exciting, especially with a new baby sister that is getting a lot of attention these days. Go Red Sox!

First Day of School

Well, not having the baby yet does have one benefit- I was able to take Owen to his first day of pre-school. He was so excited; last week we went to visit the class and meet his teachers so he knew where he was going and was only a little bit hesitant about going in when we got there. I think he will really like the school and enjoy his teachers and new friends.

"What should we name her?"

No, we do not have a new baby girl yet. Here I am at 39 weeks and the doctor says she won't be here this week, but we often talk to Owen about what we should name his new baby sister. For a while now he has been saying "Laura" after my dear friend of the same name who took pity on him at the pool and slid down the slide with him. Then he switched to "Kate," probably after his friends and cousins named "Kate." But yesterday when I asked him what we should name baby sister he said "Bob." This could be for a couple of reasons: one of his favorite stories/songs talks about all the pets being named "Bob," or Owen could be thinking of his wonderful Uncle, who he refers to as "Bobby." Either way, the point is I am 39 weeks pregnant, and apparently when she does eventually decide to come Owen will be calling her "Bob." Wish us luck!

24th of July

Every year we go to the Scipio Rodeo for the 24th of July. With Joseph studying for the bar most of the weekend, I headed down Friday morning and enjoyed the small town festivities like a parade, carnival games, kid races, a town dinner, and the Round Valley Rodeo!

Owen watching the rodeo intensely.

Owen and his cousins Will, Matt, and Nate

All the Koellikers. It's rare that we're all in Scipio at the same time, so we decided to take a quick shot.

4th of July

We had a fun 4th of July with family. Saturday we headed up to the Hinckley cabin to enjoy some mountain air and walk around Silver Lake (that is about the extent of a "hike" I can do these days). The other day I went for a walk around the neighborhood and almost didn't make it up a slight incline - got to love the third trimester!

On Monday morning we went to the East Millcreek Parade, a Hinckley tradition. We had a University of Utah float; it was only slightly difficult to convince Joseph to put on a smile and show some "U" pride. It helped when I pulled out the pictures of me sporting my BYU gear our first year of marriage! We had fun being with family and Owen loved throwing candy.

Did I mention the parade route got a little long for Owen? At this point he had run out of candy and was ready to be done.

We finished out the Holiday with a family BBQ and some sparklers! Happy 4th of July!
