4th of July

We had a fun 4th of July with family. Saturday we headed up to the Hinckley cabin to enjoy some mountain air and walk around Silver Lake (that is about the extent of a "hike" I can do these days). The other day I went for a walk around the neighborhood and almost didn't make it up a slight incline - got to love the third trimester!

On Monday morning we went to the East Millcreek Parade, a Hinckley tradition. We had a University of Utah float; it was only slightly difficult to convince Joseph to put on a smile and show some "U" pride. It helped when I pulled out the pictures of me sporting my BYU gear our first year of marriage! We had fun being with family and Owen loved throwing candy.

Did I mention the parade route got a little long for Owen? At this point he had run out of candy and was ready to be done.

We finished out the Holiday with a family BBQ and some sparklers! Happy 4th of July!

Happy Birthday Owen

Owen had his 3rd birthday last week; it was a low key birthday. With moving and being pregnant, I didn't get a party together for him - but he didn't seem to mind. He woke up to a yummy breakfast and then we headed to the zoo with his cousins. Later that night, upon his request for pizza, we went out to eat at Litza's, of course!

We love Owen so much - he keeps us laughing and on our toes. He loves to play baseball, basketball, football, and swimming. He loves being back in Utah with his friends and family - but says he misses Kansas and wants to know when we are going back. He loves to read stories and to play with horses and cars. We are so glad he is in our family and can't imagine life with out him! Happy Birthday Owen - love you!

The Graduate

On May 21 Joseph turned 28 and got the best present he could have asked for- a diploma! We are very proud of him and even though we have been home for 2 weeks, can't believe that we are done with Law school.

We are so lucky that Holly, baby Tessa, and Spencer could come into town for the graduation, we could not have packed, gone to graduation, and left Kansas (before the tornadoes hit) with out them!

Packing up

Last week began the packing and packing and more packing week. I didn't think it would take us so long to pack but every time I turned around there was another cupboard I forgot about and more things to decide if we keep or toss. Every night I would think- OK we will finish tonight, but no such luck we were packing up to the bitter end.

Fortunately we got in some of our favorite things in between all the packing. We went to one last Royals game, it was so fun and Owen loved every minute, but the Royals lost so bad that it turned slightly depressing.

Deanna Rose Farm

Joseph took Owen to Allen Field House and looked at all the Jayhawk history, they had games and pictures of basketball legends that Owen loved.

We went to Union Station in Kansas City and saw the trains and then headed over to the Crown center and ran by the fountains and had lunch a funny little restaurant that brings you your food on trains- Owen loved every minute of it.

We are seeing PINK!

We have been slow to post anything about our new little baby that will be here the first week of September, but last week we went and had an ultrasound and found out we are having a little girl! Joseph and I are very excited and Owen... is still getting used to the idea of having a baby sister. I have to admit that it is so fun going into a store and seeing all the pink clothes and being able to buy one (or two) things- I keep telling myself that we are moving in 3 weeks and should not be buying clothes, but sometimes I just can't help myself!
I have been feeling good, and besides a day here or there, not much sickness. We couldn't be more excited about having a new little baby in our family and anxious to meet her and hold her little hands and kiss her little toes!

Easter Eggs

We decorated Easter eggs the other night. I bought the cheap egg dye at the grocery store, but Owen couldn't have been happier. It is so fun to do these traditions with Owen, he is getting to the age that he remembers everything we do- I have to be careful because he is gets confused at what's a tradition and what is a one time special occasion. For example, dying Easter eggs: tradition, buying a doughnut at the grocery store: one (or two) time special occasion!

Throughout the week the eggs have diminished; we had to crack one almost immediately to see what it looked like inside, and then Owen let one gently roll off the counter and crash on the kitchen floor- we have just two left, but it has been fun to have the brightly colored eggs in our kitchen this week.

Quick trip home

Last week Owen and I flew home for a trip to see everyone while my parents were in town. It was a quick trip but we were able to see family, our good friends, and some of our favorite restaurants. I was lame and didn't take any pictures, but I daydreamed about how it just two months we will be moving back home and will love being around mountains and family again; we have loved Lawrence and we will really miss all of our friends- but we are ready to be done with school and on to the next phase of life!
